BATON ROUGE – A Lafayette resident won $100,000 during the August 31 Powerball drawing after purchasing their ticket from Royal Food Store, Inc. located at 3928 W Congress Street in Lafayette. Belkis Mendes matched four of the five white ball numbers and the Powerball number, and purchased the Power Play option for an extra $1, doubling the winnings.

Belkis claimed the prize at the Lottery’s Lafayette regional office on Tuesday, September 8, taking home $73,000 after state and federal tax withholdings.

“A huge congratulations to Belkis on their big win,” said Rose Hudson, Lottery President. “We’re always happy to see a Louisiana resident win big on this multistate game.”

The winning numbers for the August 31 drawing were 11-17-25-37-49, and the Powerball number was 10.

“You have to be in it to win it!” said Royal Food Store Owner Jay Patel, who was incredibly excited for his customer’s big win.
